S Jones Containers is delighted to announce we have been shortlisted for not one but two prestigious categories at Insider Media’s Made in the Midlands Awards 2025 – Manufacturer of the Year and Manufacturing Innovation Award.
This recognition highlights the strength of our specialist container solutions, our reputation for engineering excellence, and the hard work of our teams across the business. With more than 70 companies entering this year’s awards, the shortlist represents the very best of Midlands manufacturing, making our double finalist status especially rewarding.
Celebrating their 15th anniversary this year, the Made in the Midlands Awards honour the region’s most forward-thinking manufacturers. The Midlands is widely regarded as the UK’s industrial heartland and home to some of the nation’s most innovative companies. To secure a place as a finalist demonstrates that S Jones is not only keeping pace but leading the way in specialist container engineering.
These awards are judged not only on commercial performance but also on innovation, collaboration, and impact – qualities that are at the core of our work across Conversions, Hire, Sales, and Modular Buildings. For us, reaching the finals is proof that our commitment to quality, technical precision, and continuous improvement is resonating with both customers and industry leaders.
Our decision to enter the awards follows a significant restructuring in March 2024. At that time, S Jones established four dedicated divisions – Sales, Hire, Conversions, and Modular Buildings – to deliver more focused expertise while encouraging cross-team collaboration.
This new structure has strengthened our ability to support clients in multiple sectors, from logistics and energy to education and defence. It also allowed us to scale up delivery, invest in new capabilities, and put innovation at the heart of our operations. The results of these changes are already evident in the projects that caught the attention of the awards judges.
For our Manufacturer of the Year entry, we showcased the achievements of our Conversions Division, which has built a strong reputation for transforming standard shipping containers into specialist, high-performance solutions for highly regulated industries.
Recent projects span:
Beyond project delivery, the Manufacturer of the Year category also assessed process improvements. Judges recognised how investments in standardising workflows, simplifying quoting systems, and refining our CAD capabilities have streamlined production, reduced lead times, and delivered greater value to our customers.
Our strong partnerships with industry leaders such as Siemens, Coventry University, and Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) further underline the trust major organisations place in us. One standout project highlighted in our award submission is our ongoing collaboration with WMG, where we supplied 12 high-specification units for destructive battery testing. This long-term relationship is a testament to our reputation for delivering safe, compliant, and innovative solutions.
For the Manufacturing Innovation Award, we emphasised our pioneering work in containerised battery storage and testing solutions. With lithium-ion battery technology expanding rapidly across automotive, energy, and transport sectors, ensuring safe and compliant facilities has never been more important.
A key example is our work with Warwick Manufacturing Group, where we designed and built destructive testing chambers for lithium-ion cells. These highly engineered units include:
These features ensure operators can safely conduct destructive testing while minimising the risk of toxic gas exposure and fire incidents. The project was cited as a benchmark for safety-focused innovation and demonstrates how we take customer challenges and turn them into practical, reliable engineering outcomes.
Innovation at S Jones goes beyond container design. We also play an active role in advocating for safety guidance and regulation in the fast-growing field of battery storage. The UK currently lacks a single, consolidated regulatory framework governing the manufacture, storage, and testing of lithium-ion batteries. As the demand for battery technology grows, clear safety standards are essential.
That is why we are proud to be hosting a panel discussion at the Fire Safety Event 2025. The session, titled “Electric Revolution, Safety Evolution: Prioritising Battery Regulations,” will take place on April 9th at 10:15am in the Innovation & Compliance Theatre at the NEC Birmingham.
We will be joined by expert representatives from Electrical Safety First and the Fire Protection Association, discussing the urgent need for national-level regulation to reduce risks and protect both people and infrastructure. This event underlines our role not only as a manufacturer but as a thought leader in containerised battery safety.
If you would like to attend, registration is still open and free. The Fire Safety Event runs from April 8th to 10th at the NEC Birmingham.
With the Fire Safety Event in the day and the Made in the Midlands Awards in the evening, April 9th promises to be a landmark date for S Jones.
We will begin by engaging industry leaders in vital conversations about battery safety before joining hundreds of manufacturers, partners, and peers at the awards ceremony at Birmingham’s Macdonald Burlington Hotel. Whether or not we take home the trophy, being shortlisted for both awards is already a milestone achievement that reflects the hard work, innovation, and professionalism of our entire team.
For over 40 years, S Jones Containers has been committed to supplying and converting containers that deliver value across industries. This double shortlist demonstrates how far we have come and the reputation we have earned for quality and innovation. From battery storage safety solutions to modular facilities that enable growth, our work is making an impact.
We are proud to represent Midlands manufacturing on this stage and grateful to our customers, partners, and employees who make achievements like this possible.
The winners of the Made in the Midlands Awards 2025 will be announced on the evening of April 9th. Regardless of the outcome, the recognition of being shortlisted in both categories is already a victory for S Jones. It reflects not only the excellence of our Conversions Division but also the strength of the whole business after a successful restructuring.
Our focus now is on continuing to drive innovation, deliver safe and reliable solutions, and build partnerships that create long-term value.
This recognition is built on the trust of customers who bring us their challenges. If you are considering a container project – whether it’s battery storage, testing facilities, modular laboratories, or specialist enclosures – our award-nominated Conversions team is ready to help.
